Greetings from sunny Florida!

No baby yet :) Thanks to everyone for all of your texts and check-ins! We slept in and did a little unpacking. Then we headed to Hollywood to visit a gluten free bakery and get some yummy food. We stopped by the adoption agency to pick up the suitcase and portable crib we left here during our last visit.

We enjoyed a yummy lunch then shopped and shopped and shopped! We have a fridge and pantry full of food, as well as all the basics. We stopped at the seafood store for some local snapper, grouper and shrimp. Can't wait to eat some for dinner!

The house we're staying in is amazing. The owner stopped by to give us the insider tips. We have a pool in the backyard and the house backs to a waterway. WOW. Tate & I caught a lizard in the backyard, and we've heard that manatees swim up right behind the house. Did I mention the hammock and coconut trees?? We are fortunate, indeed.

Tomorrow the birthmom has a doctor's appointment in the morning, and the social worker said "I have a feeling tomorrow might be a big day!" We will see. :) Please send love to the birthmom, as this must be such a challenging time for her. She is indeed a brave and courageous woman.

Well, dinner's about ready, so I'll sign off for now....

We're leavin', on a jet plane....

No labor yet, but indications are that it will be soon. So, we're at the airport waiting to get on a plane to Florida!

We're so happy that Tate and Kirsta's mom are coming! Tate is excited to be a big brother. :)

Hoping the birthmom is doing OK, as we're sure this is a difficult time for her.

More to come from sunny Florida!

Still waiting...

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving time with family--we have so much to be thankful for! We hope soon to have a new baby boy to add to that list!

In the meantime, we try to be patient as we wait for the phone call that labor has started. We JUMP every time the phone rings.

Anxiously,
Kirsta & Michael

Back home again...for now

We got home last night and are resting up today, preparing for our return trip!

Of course, we don't know exactly when we will go back, but we know it will be soon. Once we get the call that labor has started, there will be a mad scramble to get back to Florida. We will then head straight to the hospital to check on the birthmom and meet the baby. After all the paperwork is signed, and 48 hours after birth, we can take the baby to our rental house.

Finally, we wait for all of the necessary paperwork between the states of Colorado and Florida, and then we can come home!!

Meeting the birthmom

Wow, what an amazing day we've had!

We flew in last night and checked in to the hotel. Today at lunch we met the birthmom with whom we've been matched. She is such a brave, intelligent, loving woman. She had a lot of questions for us, all of which were thoughtful and focused on whether we were acceptable parents for her child. She truly wants what's best for her baby. Amazing, selfless woman.

After lunch, we went to her doctor's appointment to see how the baby is doing. Kirsta got to hear the baby's heartbeat! :) The birthmom has noticed some changes and thinks the baby will come soon. The doctor says the baby's head has dropped :)

We will relax here tomorrow and then fly home. Unless the baby decides to come before then :)

We are so happy and excited!!

Headed to Florida....

Next Thursday Michael & I are flying to Florida to meet the birthmom we've been matched with. We're excited to meet her and to check out lodging, dining, beaches, etc. Plus, we had enough frequent flier miles to go First Class. Woo hoo!! :)

We've been matched!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On November 3, we accepted a referral for a baby boy, due in late November. We are anxious, excited, nervous, and happy, all at once. Both birthparents are healthy. We may travel soon to meet the birthmom, or may wait until shortly before the baby is born.

Once the baby is born, the birthmom can sign the consent 48 hours after birth, or when she's discharged, whichever comes first. Then we wait in Florida until the states of Florida and Colorado review and approve all of the paperwork. Once that's complete, we'll get to come home!

Please send thoughts of love and support to the baby's birthmom, as she is certainly going through a very tough time right now.

For those of you who are friends on Facebook, please no specific comments...long story, but it's against the law to post until the adoption is final, 6 months after the baby comes home.

Smiling,
Kirsta & Michael
